The Mesa County Libraries Foundation welcomes spring with the 2025 edition of Sippin' for the Stacks: Garden Edition. This outdoor event is an more...0 opportunity for library lovers 21 and older to support the library while enjoying an evening in the library's Discovery Garden and 970West Studio. Sip your support while sharing an evening of camaraderie with heavy hors d'oeuvres, beverages, unique art activities, and live bluegrass music courtesy of Grand Junction's own Big Dominguez. Saturday May 3rd, 2025 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with entrance to the event at the 5th Street gate of the Discovery Garden. Tickets are limited, $40 in advance, and attendees must be 21 or older. PLEASE NOTE: Proof of age will be required at the door, and no attendees under 21 will be permitted entrance. NO REFUNDS will be provided for tickets purchased for underage participants. Aptly named Ode to Joy this concert will move you to your core from its loud and dramatic opening with Verdi’s “Force of Destiny” more...0 to the emotional Song of Hope by Price, and finishing with the transcendent power of Beethoven’s immortal 9th Symphony, culminating in the beloved “Ode to Joy”, performed by the full orchestra and chorus. Our Maestro’s careful curation of pieces aimed at celebrating the Joy of our shared humanity, is a fitting season finale for a season aimed at elevating our audience, musicians and community. When to Arrive: Doors open one hour before the performance; most people arrive 40 minutes early. Concessions are available before the concert and at intermission. Dress Code: Wear what you like; dressing up is optional. General Guide for Applause: Clap for the Concertmaster, Conductor, and after each piece. Etiquette: Please silence devices, limit noise, and be considerate to ensure everyone enjoys the performance.

Writing, Teaching, and Publishing Mystery Fiction

The May Writer’s Night session will focus on mystery fiction but will also include a broader discussion of the importance of perseverance and more...0 variety, which impact all of us who write and publish. My own publications include short mystery stories, the most recent of which began as a novel-in-a-month; it has taken me four years to turn this work into a publishable story. I have been greatly fortunate to be self-supporting as a writer in part because my work includes a Pearson textbook that seems totally unrelated to mystery fiction, but I believe it fundamentally relies on the same kind of creative energy. I look forward with considerable enthusiasm to your comments, questions, and perspectives about these issues. Speaker - Lyn Fraser

The Colorado Plateau Chamber Music Society presents a program of piano quartets. This Mother’s Day weekend concert will feature Faure’s more...0 deeply sonorous and romantic quartet in C minor and Mozart’s G minor quartet, alternately turbulent and sublime. The CPCMS is a new organization bringing chamber music performances to western Colorado, played by the world class musicians who make our region their home. This concert will feature Camille Backman on violin, Charles Hebenstreit on viola, Sarah Graf on cello and Tamara Goldstein on piano. Free, $20 suggested donation

Classics, Romantics, and Modern Works, or CRM, is gaining in popularity as a favorite annual more...0 performance to see Colorado West Performing Arts Company (CWPAC) artists in. This full-length performance includes a variety of variations and pas de deux from popular classical ballets, as well as original contemporary works to show the versatility of our artists that you've grown to see in various roles. The array of dancing, costuming, and emotions you will walk away with makes this performance the perfect way to enjoy a date night or to treat your mother for Mother's Day. This performance features thirteen professional company artists, three trainees, and commissioned work from guest choreographers. The show is under two hours including a 20-minute intermission. Opportunities to meet the cast and take photos will follow each performance in the auditorium. Thanks to the support of a generous underwriter, CWPAC is able to offer accessible ticket pricing for this performance, ensuring more families and community members can experience the beauty of live professional ballet.
